Cards Win the Pennant!

St. Louis will be making a second consecutive trip to the Fall Classic thanks to a hot offense and the clutch pitching of one of the game's all=time great hurlers in Bob Gibson.

Gibson did it again in a clinching situation, this time scattering nine hits in a complete game effort as the Redbirds finished off a dominating three game sweep of the stunned Dodgers in front of a home crowd at Busch Stadium in the first-ever National League Championship Series.

St. Louis will now get a few days off as the ALCS continues to game 4.

Miller and the Minnesota Twins coming out on top of the Baltimore Orioles 4
to 0.

Minnesota set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring a single run on
2 hits. After an out was recorded, Rod Carew doubled. After another out,
Harmon Killebrew stepped in and he slapped a base-hit scoring the run. That
early scoring was all that Miller needed. Minnesota had only 5 hits for the
game.

Twins Win Slugfest to Even Series

A five run fifth and some dandy bullpen work allowed Minnesota to top the host Orioles and return home to Metropolitan Stadium with the series tied at a game apiece. Rich Reese homered, drove in three runs, and was a perfect 4 for 4 to pace the 15 hit Minnesota attack.

Ron Perranoski tossed two perfect innings of relief to prevent an infamous Baltimore comeback and preserve the victory.

Ron Perranoski finished beautifully and Rich Reese had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the
Minnesota Twins outscored the Baltimore Orioles 9 to 7.

Reese had a big day with his bat. He laced a single in the 2nd inning,
cracked a solo homerun (his 1st of the season) in the 4th inning, singled
bringing in two baserunners in the 5th inning and stroked a one-base hit in
the 7th inning. Perranoski relieved and was untouched by Baltimore as he
recorded the save, his 1st.

Dave Boswell(1-0) allowed 7 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Dave McNally(0-1). He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits
and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Boswell said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'

St. Louis 1 Away from Return to World Series

After winning just one game in the previous Fall Classic, the Cardinals are one victory away from seeking redemption after edging the Dodgers 3-2 at Los Angeles to take a 2-0 Series lead in the Fall Classic.

The two teams now travel to St. Louis for a Monday afternoon tilt. The hosts are now clearly in the driver seat with Bob Gibson taking the mound in yet another clinching situation. Just three days ago, the Cards' ace was called on in the final game of the season and tossed a shutout at the Philadelphia Phillies to give his team the Eastern Division crown.
