Twins Win Slugfest to Even Series

A five run fifth and some dandy bullpen work allowed Minnesota to top the host Orioles and return home to Metropolitan Stadium with the series tied at a game apiece. Rich Reese homered, drove in three runs, and was a perfect 4 for 4 to pace the 15 hit Minnesota attack.

Ron Perranoski tossed two perfect innings of relief to prevent an infamous Baltimore comeback and preserve the victory.

Ron Perranoski finished beautifully and Rich Reese had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the
Minnesota Twins outscored the Baltimore Orioles 9 to 7.

Reese had a big day with his bat. He laced a single in the 2nd inning,
cracked a solo homerun (his 1st of the season) in the 4th inning, singled
bringing in two baserunners in the 5th inning and stroked a one-base hit in
the 7th inning. Perranoski relieved and was untouched by Baltimore as he
recorded the save, his 1st.

Dave Boswell(1-0) allowed 7 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Dave McNally(0-1). He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits
and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Boswell said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'
