A win would have clinched a tie for the Dodgers, but Houston outlasts in 19 innings. Jim Lefebvre looked to deliver a blow to put him down in the annals of Dodgers' history with a two run homer in the 7th to give the hosts a 3-1 lead. Houston chipped away a run in the eighth, but trailed heading to the ninth. Then Norm Miller wrote history himself with a longball off lefty Jim Brewer to tie the game. |

Denny Lemaster carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning and John Edwards hit
one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the Houston Astros defeated the Los
Angeles Dodgers in 19 innings 6 to 4 at Dodger Stadium.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Houston ended up
winning it in the 19th inning. After an out was recorded, Marty Martinez got
things rolling when he lined a one-base hit. Edwards came next and he bombed
a two-run dinger (his 7th of the season). Overall Houston out-hit Los
Angeles 17 to 9.
The win went to Scipio Spinks(2-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. The
left-handed Lemaster lost his chance for a no-hitter when Bill Russell
tripled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Al McBean(3-2) was charged with
the loss in relief.
