Coleman Best AL Pitcher for June

Washington righty Joe Coleman was awarded for a perfect 4-0 June record by being named Pitcher of the Month for the Junior Circuit. The Senators' rotation mainstay did so in five starts, compiling a 1.42 ERA along the way. His most impressive start was against the AL East division leading Baltimore Orioles, a two hit complete game 2-1 victory over Dave McNally on June 26th. The month long hot streak raised Coleman's record to 6-5 on the year and lowered his season ERA to 3.44 in 105 innings.

Cubs' Hickman Honored in Junior Circuit

Chicago Cubs outfielder Jim Hickman is the National League Player of the Month for June. The righty swinging slugger hit .337 and slammed 12 homers and drove in 28 runs for the month.
This rising star brought his season home run total to 22, putting him among the league leaders in that category, as well as throwing his hat in the ring for a spot on the All-Star team.

Howard AL Player of Month for June

Frank Howard is the American League June Player of the Month. The imposing 6'8" left fielder for the Washington Senators batted .319, smacked 10 homers, and drove in 23 runs for the month over 28 games, all of which translated to a 1.135 OPS.
For the season, "Hondo" is hitting at a .316 clip and leads the league with 30 dingers, 71 RBI, and 67 runs scored as a one man wrecking crew for the also-ran Senators.
The "Tower of Power" did not rest on his laurels, starting July with 3 homers against the Red Sox to bring his MLB leading homer total to 33--before the All Star Break.

McLain makes season debut

After giving up a two run homer in the 1st to Roy White, Detroit's former 30 game winner, Denny McLain, shut down the Yankees through a six inning stint in his return to the team from suspension for his connection to gamblers.
