Cincinnati's new gem on the river was the setting for a rout by the Junior Circuit stars. Carl Yastrzemski paced the victors with 2 homers. The AL racked up 20 hits against the best that the opposing league had to offer. Bobby Bonds homered in a losing effort for the NL stars. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Ray Fosse blocked the plate, saving a run!
Carl Yastrzemski launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Riverfront Stadium as
the American League club, running on all cylinders, ripped the National
League team by a large 15 to 2 margin.
Yastrzemski was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He stroked a one-base hit in
the 1st inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 4th inning and bombed a two-run
dinger (his 2nd of the season) in the 5th inning. American League bats were
hot in the 9th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits. American League
finished with 20 hits while National League ended up with 10.
Dave McNally(1-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 1 inning. Phil Niekro(0-1)
took the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and surrendered 2 hits
and no walks.
