The New York Mets nipped the Cincinnati Reds 4 to 3 at Riverfront Stadium in a
hard fought contest.
New York took the lead for good in the top of the 3rd inning scoring one
runner on 2 hits. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory went to Tom Seaver(1-0) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Seaver got help from Tug McGraw who was credited with his 1st save. The loss
was charged to Gary Nolan(0-1). He gave up 3 hits and 5 walks in 6 innings.
'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Seaver, 'I was
just giving us a chance to win.'
