O's Edge Twins in ALCS Opener




Eddie Watt walked the bases full in the ninth, but Pete Richert bailed him out, getting two lineouts and a strikeout to secure the win.

52,019 fans were treated to a fine game at Memorial Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Baltimore Orioles won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Minnesota surrendered all of the runs Baltimore needed in the 3rd inning when
they scored 3 runs on 3 hits. That early scoring held up. Baltimore banged
out 7 hits on the afternoon.

Mike Cuellar(1-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Pete
Richert earned his 1st save. Jim Perry(0-1) was the losing pitcher.
